Why Are My Extensions Dry With Breakage?

As you will know, hair extensions will require regular maintenance to keep them looking healthy and nourished. Providing each step is followed correctly by your client, their hair will last its full lifetime without any problems and will continue to look beautiful. You need to remind client’s this is human hair, so they will need to look after it just like they would with their own hair. Regular maintenance should be carried out within a minimum of every 6-8 weeks to ensure the hair is looking at its best. Regular maintenance includes top up packs, treatments and trims if needed with every maintenance appointment as their hair will show signs of wear and will naturally thin during wear. This applies more to very unique highly processed white blonde shades, your client will be required to take extra care with these shades as they are more susceptible to damage during wear. Top up or replacement packs will be more necessary with these types of shades in comparison with darker or natural toned shades.

As PlatinumWhite is a highly bleached shade, it requires stricter after-care to maintain it and it is also more susceptible to damage with general wear and tear. We would always recommend regular masques throughout wear which will prevent the hair, to some degree, from snapping. However with these shades the hair is more susceptible to snapping due to dryness.

It’s important to understand why the hair is snapping so you can prevent this from happening and take extra steps to maintain your hair, shades such as Platinum White, Silver Light, Silver Beige, Ice White, Silver Pearl are all over processed shades, over processed shades are bleached for longer and with more invasive dyes, this does effect quality to some degree and extra care must be taken with these types of platinum shades, over processed shades are more prone to dying out, particularly in the summer months, when the hair is dry it becomes brittle and this will cause the hair to snap at the ends when brushing. To prevent the hair from snapping too this degree we would advise to use the Macadamia masque every time you wash your hair, once the masque has been rinsed out, towel dry your hair and apply a small amount of the masque throughout the mid lengths and ends of your hair. Take care when brushing your hair, be careful and gentle when brushing, this will limit the amount of breakage that occurs. Use protection serums, UV protein sprays, heat defensive sprays to enhance the lifespan.
